Modded Nerf Elite Alpha Trooper Range Test

I wasn't content with the EAT's meager 12m range, so I chucked in a BT V2 Retaliator/Rampage spring (http://black-tactical.com/store/weapon-accessories-foam-gun-parts-c-69_30/spring-for-nerf-elite-retailator-and-rampage-v2-p-4469) and took it for a test run.
Needless to say I was very happy.

Just a note on modding the EAT, I would not recommend removing the AR as with the 8.5kg BT v2 spring it gains hardly any range (with Elites) and of course without the AR there is more internal stress. Average range does get pushed up to the magical 30m (100ft) mark though.
Muzzle velocity was increased, so for stefan users AR removing is a good idea (and a necessity for half length stefans anyway).
It does make an awesome sound so if you're into that sort of thing go ahead, but otherwise I'd leave the AR in there for use with Elites.

EDIT: Don't pay these range claims too much stock, the shots were likely not flat.

  1. It's good how on the Australian blaster it has the N-Strike Elite logo, not the N-Strike Logo.

  2. If I put in a 5kg spring from orange mod works, will the priming rod bend?

    1. I've had mine in there for a while, and seen no priming rod bending. I don't think anyone else has either with the OMW 5kg.

  3. My dad bought me this gun for my birthday and I'm not very happy wit the range, very consistent 14m. Would you suggest any mods to do to the blaster that won't damage it internally, such as adding tape as I can take it off easily. Also, which nerf gun should I buy for a stock to go with gun, either the stockade, elite spectre or retaliator.

    1. You could create a tape spacer on the plunger rod. These posts:

are good examples of how you use a spring spacer. It can be made with all sorts of materials, I've made several from tape successfully.
You won't get much more range without doing "proper" mods to it though. Nerf blasters have been built for maximum lifespan, so basically anything that improves power will cut down on the blaster's life unless certain supporting mods are done.

As for the stock, it's all about your preference.
The Stockade provides a decent length, very stable stock that also holds 10 darts. It's my personal favourite, but it does add a fair amount of length to the EAT.
The Spectre provides a long but slightly flimsy stock that can also fold away when not needed. It's the best if you do a lot of running as well as precision shooting thanks to its folding feature, but is the flimsiest of the lot and is rather long.
The Retaliator provides a very short and sturdy stock, but is too short for most older people. It works the best for close quarters since it adds the least length, but being so short can be uncomfortable.

    2. just one more question, why does pre tensioner the spring gain longer ranges?

      Thanks :)P

    3. doesn't matter, now I know. you can delete my above comment

    4. The elastic potential energy of a spring (assuming spring is ideal) is proportional to the square of its compression/extension (we're concerned with compression here). The kinetic energy of an object is proportional to the square of its velocity. Let's assume that the kinetic energy of the dart is directly proportional to the work done by the spring (that is, difference between initial and final elastic energies). Therefore, Ek = ck/2(xf^2-xi^2), where c and k are constants whose values don't matter for this explanation. For the original setup, xf is the compression C and xi is 0, hence Ek orig = (ckC^2)/2. For the new pretensioned setup, xf is the original compression plus the extra pretensioned portion C + h, and xi is the pretension h. Hence Ek pretension = ck/2((C+h)^2-h^2) = ck/2(C^2 + 2Ch)), which is greater than the original Ek. Since velocity is proportional to the square root of kinetic energy, the pretension velocity is therefore greater than the original velocity.

    6. should I still dry-fire. My tape is 1.8cm thick. And should I cut my tape down to 1cm.

    7. You should never dry fire. Your tape needs to be cut down only to the point that your blaster can catch. Usually you'll find the ideal length by trial and error.

    8. DAME IT!!!! I did the mod and it worked out alright. after I put my blaster back together it would only prime back and not go forward. I definitely fely it being stronger. Guess i'll just have to use the 1cm tape

    9. hey, just read the snap fire 8 review then relised the fact. does leaving the spacer tape in the blaster damage the performance of it or the spring?

    10. Not as far as I'm aware.
The spring will wear down a little faster than usual, but all springs wear out anyway.
If all you've done is the spacer, the EAT will survive just fine.

  4. I'm a very happy man right now! Thank you very much! The elite darts flew at least 3 metres more!

  5. Where would you recomend reinforcement kits from?

    1. I don't think anyone sells actual reinforcement kits for the EAT, at least not from what I've seen with a quick search.
