The kinetic energy of an object is proportional to the square of its velocity. Let's assume that the kinetic energy of the dart is directly proportional to the work done by the spring (that is, difference between initial and final elastic energies). Therefore, Ek = ck/2(xf^2-xi^2), where c and k are constants whose values don't matter for this explanation. For the original setup, xf is the compression C and xi is 0, hence Ek orig = (ckC^2)/2. For the new pretensioned setup, xf is the original compression plus the extra pretensioned portion C + h, and xi is the pretension h. Hence Ek pretension = ck/2((C+h)^2-h^2) = ck/2(C^2 + 2Ch)), which is greater than the original Ek. Since velocity is proportional to the square root of kinetic energy, the pretension velocity is therefore greater than the original velocity.P13c30fch33s3https://www.blogger.com/profile/03971776453540415024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7516405105463063210.post-85283527851767561462014-06-18T19:47:39.403+10:002014-06-18T19:47:39.403+10:00doesn't matter, now I know. you can delete my ...doesn't matter, now I know. you can delete my above commentAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7516405105463063210.post-28998207565980456772014-06-18T19:25:15.446+10:002014-06-18T19:25:15.446+10:00just one more question, why does pre tensioner the...just one more question, why does pre tensioner the spring gain longer ranges?

Thanks :)PAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7516405105463063210.post-10801380464328702502014-06-18T18:28:19.652+10:002014-06-18T18:28:19.652+10:00You could create a tape spacer on the plunger rod....You could create a tape spacer on the plunger rod. These posts:
http://foamdartgoodness.wordpress.com/2012/07/24/mod-shop-nerf-spectre-ar-removal-and-spring-pre-tension/
http://nerfscience.blogspot.com.au/2013/11/perfect-almost-hammershot-spring-spacer.html
are good examples of how you use a spring spacer. It can be made with all sorts of materials, I've made several from tape successfully.
You won't get much more range without doing "proper" mods to it though. Nerf blasters have been built for maximum lifespan, so basically anything that improves power will cut down on the blaster's life unless certain supporting mods are done.

As for the stock, it's all about your preference.
The Stockade provides a decent length, very stable stock that also holds 10 darts. It's my personal favourite, but it does add a fair amount of length to the EAT.
The Spectre provides a long but slightly flimsy stock that can also fold away when not needed. It's the best if you do a lot of running as well as precision shooting thanks to its folding feature, but is the flimsiest of the lot and is rather long.
The Retaliator provides a very short and sturdy stock, but is too short for most older people. It works the best for close quarters since it adds the least length, but being so short can be uncomfortable.P13c30fch33s3https://www.blogger.com/profile/03971776453540415024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7516405105463063210.post-3853989877190973002014-06-18T17:42:52.177+10:002014-06-18T17:42:52.177+10:00My dad bought me this gun for my birthday and I...My dad bought me this gun for my birthday and I'm not very happy wit the range, very consistent 14m.
